Kutaisi International Airport in Western Georgia experienced a remarkable surge in passenger activity during the previous month. According to the United Airports of Georgia, the airport served a record-breaking 189,166 passengers, marking a substantial 123 percent rise in comparison to the corresponding month in 2019, before the pandemic.

Furthermore, the airport witnessed a notable uptick of 94 percent in the number of flights, managing a total of 517 flights, a significant increase from the figures recorded in 2019.

During the initial seven months of 2023, the airport effectively catered to 856,646 passengers and facilitated 2,590 flights. These figures denote a noteworthy escalation of 90 percent in passenger volume and 76 percent in flight count when measured against the statistics of 2019.

Notably, the United Airports of Georgia highlighted that Wizz Air, the Hungarian budget airline, deployed its third passenger aircraft at the airport the previous month. This aircraft successfully operated direct flights from Kutaisi Airport to Madrid, Brussels, Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Poznań. Moreover, plans are in place for Wizz Air to position its fourth aircraft at the facility by December and subsequently introduce flights to Copenhagen.

Another development involves FlyArystan, the Kazakh budget airline, initiating regular flights from Kutaisi Airport to Almaty, with services commencing on June 4.

It is worth mentioning that the Airport accommodates five airline companies, collectively offering flights to 35 destinations spanning 18 different countries.
