Former leader of the Armenian men’s national chess team, Levon Aronian, who now plays for the US, is among the top ten highest-earning chess players in 2024, Forbes.ru reports.
Aronian received $257,000 in prize money for winning the US Chess Cup, as well as his successful performance at the Grand Chess Tour and the Champions Chess Tour last year.
In first place is Gukesh Dommaraju (India), who earned $1.5 million for winning the Candidates Tournament and the World Championship in 2024.
In second place is Ding Liren (China)—who lost to Dommaraju in the World Championship—with $1.1 million.
The leader of the men’s world chess rankings, 16th world champion Magnus Carlsen (Norway) is third, with $771,000.
